Microscopic detail. Macro impact.

Petrographic analysis

Petrographic analysis

Our petrographic services leave no stone unturned. Our 200-point count analysis and strict adherence to ASTM C295, AS 1141.65, and TMR Q188 standards provide construction labs, engineers, and asset managers clear, actionable insights into the suitability, durability, and performance of rock, aggregate, sand, and concrete materials.

Using microscopic methods, we classify rock types based on their mineral composition and textures to determine the suitability, quality, and compliance to help you understand:

  • If a material is fit for purpose
  • Whether it meets relevant construction standards
  • If it’s vulnerable to deterioration or deleterious reactions such as:
    ASR (Alkali Silica Reactivity)
    AAR (Alkali Aggregate Reactivity)

What we test

We provide petrographic testing of aggregates, sands, and rocks used in:
We also support infrastructure investigations for dams, bridges, roads, and tunnels, including wear and quartz content assessments for tunnelling projects.

The Scope Geo advantage

We know rocks and we know risk

Led by geologists with over 20 years of combined experience, our insights are practical and grounded in real industry conditions.

Responsive and reliable

We deliver concise results, clear recommendations, direct communication, and meet every deadline.

Above-standard is our standard

Our 200-point count analyses and advanced microscopy techniques give you more detail, more confidence, and better outcomes.

A rare specimen

We’re the only Australian East Coast-based independent business offering this level of petrographic specialisation, and we intend to keep raising the bar.

Industry-backed, geologist-run

As proud sponsors of various industry events and conferences, we’re deeply embedded in the sectors we serve. These include IQA Biannual National Conference, Australian Engineering Geology Conference and the IQA QLD Branch.
